"Vain repetition is wrong." Prayer beads are pagan in origin. Only those who don't understand that God is an actual PERSON get tricked into that practice. God has much better things to do than listen to blather.

Thank you Hugo. Reminded me of one day I got carried away praying on a lone stretch of desert, on my knees, when I was shaken out of it by some teenagers who had come close in a truck, and I had not heard them. They were laughing and jeering, and calling me names. I didn't handle it well, as my dogs were running around, and I thought they might try to run us down. I yelled at them to stay back, called the dogs and ran to my truck, quite a ways away. Then I think now, what would Jesus have done? Could that have been an opportunity to witness to them? Or just walk quietly away. Perhaps better equipped to handle a possible future scenario. Sometimes I forget to ask, "What would Jesus do?"

Is water baptism not an act of true commitment that followers of Jesus are being called to experience? Albeit, one may call it symbolic, yet ultimately is it not an outward gesture that reflects a true commitment of the heart, allowing for a very real rebirth of the spirit?

Luke 3:21-22

21 When all the people were being baptized, Jesus came and was baptized too. And while he was praying, the sky opened, 22 and the Holy Spirit came down on him. The Spirit looked like a real dove. Then a voice came from heaven and said, “You are my Son, the one I love. I am very pleased with you.”

If we are to understand the scriptures directly, is Jesus not showing us what to do?

Matthew 28:19-20

19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

There’s no indication that a person needs a church to be baptized. One only needs a witness to baptize you in His Holly Name as only He commanded.

Some people will literally do this in their bathtubs. No need for complexities, isn’t that great!
